This summer, choose a poetic stroll to encounter the striking sculptures of Marine de Soos on the Île d’Yeu.
During a contemplative walk, close to the Vendée coastline, the striking bronze sculptures of artist Marine de Soos accompany us with their soothing aura. Her moving creations reconcile strength and fragility, with a sincerity that remains intact. The gesture of a hand, the movement of a foot, the fold of a garment, or the tilt of a head all contribute to the realism of her representations and instantly evoke the viewer’s emotion. The breath that seems to escape from a musical instrument raised toward the sky, the vigorous stride of a man in full motion, the serenity of a pregnant woman—these are all gestures and universal symbols that immediately refer us to our humanity and our sense of fraternity.
Thanks to their finesse, her outdoor sculptures— inspired by her travels in Africa and later in Asia, as well as by the artist’s vibrant inner impressions—blend with disarming naturalness into the environments they effortlessly enhance. The bronze, worked by hand or cast in jewelry workshops for her most delicate pieces, is carefully patinated, clothing these figures in a singular and fascinating mantle of light. Combined with the brilliance and peaceful harmony of water, the material allows us to perceive another structure of time—more tangible, yet also more poetic.
To complete these striking tableaux, Marine de Soos plays with the fragile balance of the figures that compose them: a hoop at the end of a stick, a kite carried by the wind, complete these sublime anonymous, life-size figures.
