Exhibition. An Invitation to Travel

Marine de Soos (left) is the guest of Anne Toulouse, director of Galerie 49, alongside Christian Dauvergne.

Until October 13, Galerie 49 welcomes sculptor Marine de Soos and painter Christian Dauvergne. Each, in their own way, embodies travel.
With around fifteen bronzes bearing strong Asian and African influences, Marine de Soos draws her reflection from the journeys that shaped her childhood in Djibouti, between Africa and Asia. “My parents were steeped in wide-open spaces; I was too,” the artist confided at the opening. Bronze, a material that at first glance may seem cold, is not so for Marine de Soos: “It is a majestic material that allows great freedom in space. It is the material that suits me best. I am very tactile.”

In Christian Dauvergne’s work, serenity prevails in a surprising approach, often on the edge of the imaginary and the abstract. Lights worthy of the “painter of light,” William Turner; his acrylics captivate the eye and invite travel.

The two artists are in perfect harmony. Marine de Soos confirms: “I find that in this exhibition there is a beautiful correlation between my wide-open spaces and the power of his painting.”

Galerie 49, rue St-Nicolas, Wednesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
